Thankful Day 29

It comes with a very happy birthday wish to my friend, Nicole.

I've known Nicole since 2005, met her through a mutual friend on Live Journal and she has been one of the most incredible impacts on my life. She is one of those people that you can talk about something so completely frivolous and then in the next moment have a serious life conversation. I'm so thankful for her friendship!

Thankful Day 28

I am thankful for Star Wars!
For George Lucas and his brilliant creativity.
For Yoda and his infinite wisdom.
For R2-D2 and his big attitude in a little tin can.
And for Han Solo, who shows that a girl can always love a scoundrel!

Thankful Day 27

I'm thankful for sweet puppy love and the fact that these two are so amusing.

They wait at the gate when they hear you coming down the stairs so they can get some early morning love in.

And are in a constant state of entertainment.

Thankful Day 25

I am thankful for the incredible feeling of love and peace that is shared today between family and friends. From the lovely heart filled texts and emails to the phone calls, it is heartwarming.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Usually by the time Thanksgiving week has started, I have an outline of a Thanksgiving message to send out. Usually there are a couple different ones put together for different outlets of mine (email, blog, Facebook, etc). This year, however, I have found myself short on time and thought.

Time…it is constantly moving and seems to go faster and faster each year. And as time slips away, we forget the simple things that we have to be thankful for – The family and friends that are with us every day, whether physically or in our hearts. The good fortune we have, because whether we fully realize it or not, we always have love. God has blessed us and it is sometimes hard to remember that as we rush through our days.

I kept thinking “Wow, I not only have no time to write something for Thanksgiving, but I feel my mind is short on profound thought to share.” But then realization hit me – I don’t have to share anything profound or wise, I just have to say it straight from the heart.

Take the time out of your day and let those that bless your life know exactly that. Tell people that you love them and are thankful for them. I am extremely grateful for each of you and for the fact that I have you in my life. I hope that your Thanksgiving is extremely blessed and that you are filled with love and peace.

Thankful Day 24

I am so utterly thankful for my family!!

Turkey Dinner Fail

So let’s hear them. We all have our epic holiday dinner fail stories.

Mine is amusing, but at the same scarred me and I have never attempted to cook a turkey again.

I was living in WA at the time with a friend. And how the mishaps of the day happened I am still unsure. The turkey was in the oven, cooking nicely. The potatoes were on the stove, cooking nicely. We were watching TV peacefully. Suddenly there is this pop and we look towards the kitchen but nothing is seen. Go back to watching TV when all the sudden smoke starts pouring out of the oven doors, smoke alarm going off. How it happened I have never figured out. The turkey…stupid bird…had exploded in the oven. Seriously, it literally exploded in the oven.

In our rush to get the turkey out of the oven as there are pieces burning in the oven, we fail to notice that the potatoes are boiling over. And then it happened – the lid blew off the potatoes shooting potatoes out of the pot.

We had to clean the whole kitchen, salvage what we could (scorched mashed potatoes, oh yummy), and do nothing but laugh because at that point what else can you do? Cry? There’s no crying in holiday cooking! However, I have seriously never cooked or attempted to cook a turkey again. I fear the bird exploding.

Come on, confess your story!

(Another confession...I use cartoony/cutesy turkeys because the real life bird gives me the creeps. Actually a lot of birds give me the creeps -- owls are up there with turkeys!)

Thankful Day 23

I am not a big fan of Katy Perry, but I really like the lyrics to her song "Firework". Today I am thankful for deep words.

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again

Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
Like a house of cards
One blow from caving in

Do you ever feel already buried deep
Six feet under scream
But no one seems to hear a thing

Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
Cause there's a spark in you

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe you're reason why all the doors are closed
So you can open one that leads you to the perfect road

Like a lightning bolt, your heart will blow
And when it's time, you'll know

You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em fallin' down-own-own

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It's always been inside of you, you, you
And now it's time to let it through

Cause baby you're a firework
Come on show 'em what your worth
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby you're a firework
Come on let your colors burst
Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!"
You're gonna leave 'em goin "Oh, oh, oh!"

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon,

Thankful Day 20

Today I am thankful for Harry Potter! Yup! I sure am. I went to see the first part of cinematic offering of book 7 today. Stunning. Incredible. I love that whole series!!

Is there anything like it?

The holidays are here!! It is hard to believe that next week is Thanksgiving. This is, to quote the song, the most wonderful time of the year!

There is a bit of underlying stress, of course, as you try to get everything done in time for the big ho-ho-ho on December 25th, but really from October – December I love it.

Halloween is a fun kick off to the holidays, then we slide into Thanksgiving and the warm feeling starts. And then it is there in front of us – CHRISTMAS!

I love the decorations.
I love the music.
I love the festive packages.
I love the overall love that you feel.
I just love the holidays.

I have my cards already addressed, just need to finish stuffing cards in envelopes and buy stamps. I have wrapping paper out and presents waiting to be done up with bows and put in boxes to be shipped off to my loved ones. I am eagerly awaiting the 24 hours of “A Christmas Story” to air. For all the Christmas specials to pop up. For the trip to the Temple to see the lights. For holiday goodies.

Is it possible to overdose on holly jolly??

Thankful Day 19

I'm thankful for my mom and the time we got to spend together tonight!

Thankful Day 18

Oops! Forgot to post this last night!

Today I am thankful for Christmas music.

Yup! It is only November 18th and I jammed the holly jolly tunes at work today. Why? Because there is something about a Christmas melody that just makes me smile. It brings that warm feeling that Christmas brings about, the songs bring back memories of past holidays and hopefulness for many more memories to come.

Thankful Day 17

It was a crazed day today. From road ragers on the road on the way to work to annoyances at work to just feeling a little under the weather. So today I am thankful for the fact I am still smiling!

Thankful Day 16

I can remember that day in 1981 when I got up at dawn to sit in front of the TV to watch the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer to Prince Charles. It was beautiful and I had such a big love affair with the royal family for many years after that.

Today was the announcement that Prince William had proposed to his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, and will be marrying next year...30 years after his parents beautiful wedding.

Today I am thankful that fairy tales do come true and somewhere a Prince is out there.

Thankful Day 15

Today I am thankful that the traveling family members made it home from the trips safely. (My Aunt & Uncle heading back to Idaho and my parents returning from Idaho.)

Jeremy and I are especially happy that my parents are home as the dogs were brats. Haha!!!

I would say I am thankful for FOOTBALL but my Steelers are currently getting stomped.
So...I am thankful for beautiful fall days where you have perfect weather and complete peace!

Thankful Day 13

Today Jeremy, Mike, Trish, Michaela, and I had breakfast with our Uncle Steven and Aunt Kellie, who are in town from Idaho for the weekend. (To attend a Cardinals football game.) It was so absolutely wonderful to see them and the conversation was full of many laughs. Today I am most thankful for family.

Some links full of all kinds of WANT!

I love these nail polish bottles!

Bath and Body Works make the most incredible candles and portable scents.

This is the one that I have bought for my car for December:

For Halloween, I had a pumpkin in my car that smelled of spiced pumpkin. For some reason it started to smell more like rotting pumpkin, that was rather annoying. I now have Autumn Apple in my car, makes me crave apples.

Completely love this chair!!

Thankful Day 11

Today I am so thankful for those brave men and women that have defended this country. I am equally as thankful for those brave men and women that STILL defend this country and our right to freedom.

No matter where you stand politically, the troops deserve our support, our love, and our eternal gratitude. They signed up to protect us, something they didn't have to do, but willingly chose to do.

My dad, my brother-in-law, my friends, my family members -- all of you who have served or are serving THANK YOU!

Thankful Day 10

Today I am thankful for "Sesame Street" and it is their 41st Birthday today! There are some fond memories of growing up with Sesame Street and the show is just all kind of amazing for children today as it was back in the day.

And one of my fave moments...meeting Oscar the Grouch at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2007. :)

Thankful Day 9

(Oops, forgot to post this last night.)

Today I am thankful for my darling friend, Leslie! For just being sweet, rational, and a voice of reason, even when I use her as a sounding board for the stupid.
Love you, my friend!

And here we go with another week...

First off, Happy Birthday to my cousin, Becca. Hope the day was fabulous!

--------

I'm very excited to say that I am attending my first Comic Con in July of 2011!!! I am going to be bouncing off the walls.

--------

I am working on my review for "Due Date" currently to put on The Reel Box Office Buzz. I wish I could say it was a positive review, unfortunately I can't. Robert Downey Jr. is so sexy and such a great actor, but he couldn't save this movie.

----------

Have dinner plans with Paula on Thursday with a former classmate of ours from Turkey, Mike. Should be a good time...no idea where we are going just yet.

Thankful Day 8

Today I am thankful for vacation planning time!
2011 is shaping up nicely!

April - Vegas for the Hodja Reunion (High School in Turkey)

July - Idaho for the 4th of July + Comic Con weekend in San Diego.

October - New York City!

Thankful Day 6

I am thankful for old bosses that still think you are pretty cool, especially when they could possibly be opening up a big opportunity for you.

Blog Give-away!

My uber fabulous blogging friend, Lesli, of "Pretty Random Thoughts" and "Girl in the Kate Spade Mittens" has combined her two blogs into the absolutely lovely Daisy, Chloe, Noodles & Petunia blog.

(picture shamelessly borrowed from Lesli's blog because come on, Noodles is adorable!)

Look at that Noodles!! How can you not love him?

Anyway,if Lesli can get to 25 followers by Thanksgiving, she will be doing a fun give-away of a Royal Pomander candle. So go follow a fun blog and drop a little comment on Lesli here.

Thankful November!

A darling friend of mine issued the challenge to tell what you are thankful for every day for the month of November. I generally struggle with a daily "Thankful for" posting (see my 365 Days of Gratitude project that petered out quickly), but I will do my best. I am not going to go back and do one post for the five days I missed already this month, but am going to combine them as one here...

Thankful November Days 1 - 5

Day One:
The Power of Words.

Day Two:
Another fabulous season of baseball came to a wrap.

Day Three:
The freedom to rock the vote.

Day Four:
"The Big Bang Theory" and the clever dialogue.

Day Five:
Rose for making me laugh.

Are you up for the challenge as well?

A little music for the soul

Have you all checked out the online jukebox? It has been my favorite work companion all week long. Particularly the mid 70’s and early 80’s music blocks. I love music…I can hear a song and a line will resonate with something in my brain at that moment and it will become a favorite of mine. And my taste is very eclectic. I can find something in any genre to listen to.

Have some random music thoughts from me:

* Frank Sinatra = He ain’t the Chairman of the Board for nothing. I love him and his smooth voice.
* I met him once. Amazing.
* The Beatles are my pick for greatest rock group ever.
* “All you need is love” is my all time favorite song.
* Paul McCartney singing “Michelle” is swoon worthy. I swear to y’all, he is singing that to me only!
* Actor Sebastian Roche sang that song to me once…it was swoon worthy then as well.
* My second favorite song is “Don’t stop believin’” by Journey. Steve Perry as the lead singer, please.
* My first concert I saw was Olivia Newton-John on her “Physical” tour.
* Second concert was Rick Springfield.
* I have had a massive crush on him for about 25 years now.
* And have seen him in concert an embarrassing amount of times.
* I have a soft spot for disco music.
* “You make me feel like dancing” is my silly “guaranteed to make me smile” song.
* I also dig Barry Manilow.
* Okay, I love soft rock/light rock/elevator music/whatever you want to call it.
* “My Life” by Billy Joel is my anthem.
* I do love some rap music. Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Eminem…I love ‘em!
* And I don’t care who wants to deny it – you can not not like “Ice, Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice.
* I also love boy bands, particularly the Boston boys – New Edition and New Kids on the Block.
* *whistles innocently*
* I chair dance to “The Right Stuff” when it comes up on my ipod.
* I always have loved Prince as well. He is a strange duck but his songs rock.
* “Purple Rain” soundtrack was just incredible.
* Obviously, I love musicals. I wish my life was a musical and we’d all just randomly burst out into song.
* And I don’t care what anyone says “Xanadu” was a great movie!
* I love metal hair bands! Poison, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, etc.
* And Aerosmith!
* Oh, and Kid Rock!!! Saw him in concert with Run-DMC…great concert!!
* I was country when country wasn’t cool…I love it as well. Though admittedly I don’t listen to it as much now as I used to.
* Garth is my fave country singer…I think I probably have 5 different versions of his “greatest hits box sets” that come out every couple of years.
* Michael Jackson was musically brilliant. The whole “Thriller” album was stellar.
* BEST One Hit Wonder song? "Come on, Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners!

So what are some of your musical facts?
